Guide to sub-brow lift surgery in Korea

Droopy eyelids are a common condition that many face as they age. As our eyelid skin is very thin and delicate, as we age, our eyelid skin stretches, loses its elasticity and droops. In severe cases, it can even block your vision.

But droopy eyelids not only interfere with your vision and cause bad vision in the long run, it also gives you a tired-looking appearance. Moreover, patients with this condition strain their eye muscles to open their eyes wider, and that strain put on your eyes can create fine lines and wrinkles.

So if your eyelids are drooping, it is recommended to fix it as soon as possible, and sub-brow lift is one of the best solution to the problem. Read along to find out more about the procedure, its benefits and risk, and whether you need it or not.

What is sub-brow lift surgery?

Sub-brow lift is a cosmetic surgery that fixes droopy eyelids and eyebrows by removing excess loose skin under the eyebrows. This procedure also tightens your eye muscles and tissues, and significantly reduce sagging without making any changes to the existing eyelids.

Typically, sub-brow lifting produces a similar result to that of a forehead lift except that it is more focused on the eye area rather than the forehead. So if you are looking to improve both your droopy eyes and sagging forehead, an endotine forehead lift might be a better option.

Do I need sub-brow lift surgery?

As mentioned above, if you have drooping eyelids, and especially when it interferes with your vision, you should definitely fix it. In addition, a sub-brow lift procedure is suitable for:

  • Those who want to fix droopy eyelids but not get double eyelids
  • Those who want to maintain existing double eyelid but fix sagging eyelid skin
  • Those with excess eyelid fats and skin under the eyebrows (puffy and thick eyelids)
  • Those sporting a large space between their eye and eyebrows
  • Those suffering from blocked vision due to drooping eyelids
  • Those with drooping eyelids and/or eyebrows due to aging
  • Those who have asymmetric eyebrows due to sagging eyelids

Benefits of a sub-brow lift surgery:

  • Corrects drooping eyelids that obstruct vision.
  • Adjust the distance between your eyes and eyebrows to a more appropriate distance
  • Gives you bigger and clearer eyes by revealing your original eyelids hidden by saggy skin
  • Makes your eyelids look lesser puffy and thick by removing excess eyelid skin
  • Correct asymmetrical eyebrows due to aging

Sub-brow lift procedure

A sub-brow lift is performed by making an incision exactly underneath the eyebrow, then excess drooping skin is removed and sagging muscles are tightened and sutured. This procedure allows sagging to be significantly reduced without making any changes to the existing double eyelid crease and shape.

Benefits:

  • Effectively fix droopy eyes
  • Removes excess skin on thick and puffy eyelids
  • Adjust for an appropriate distance between eyes and eyebrow
  • Natural looking results
  • Short recovery time
  • Minimal scarring

Downsides:

  • Distance between eyes and eyebrow becomes very short if you have severe drooping

How long does sub-brow lift surgery take?

A sub-brow lift surgery in Korea usually last an hour and the procedure is performed under sedation anesthesia.

How long should I stay in Korea?

A sub-brow lift surgery in Korea is not a major surgery so hospitalization is not required. But do stay until your stitches are removed and go shopping in the meantime!

Stitch removal

Stitches are usually removed 5~7 days after surgery.

Cautions on stitch removal

If you remove the stitches earlier then advised, your wound might reopen, therefore causing an infection. And if you remove it too late, you risk further scarring and pigmentation.

Due to time constraints, you might be considering having your stitches removed at the local hospitals in your home country.

Although that is possible (but not recommended), it largely depends on how well you have been healing and is also subjected to doctor’s approval.

Don’t rush the recovery procedure for best results!

Alternatives to sub-brow lift surgery

One of the alternative to sub-brow lift surgery is upper blepharoplasty (double eyelid surgery). But if you simply want to treat your droopy eyelids but not create double eyelids or change your existing double eyelid crease, then you are better off with sub-brow lift surgery.

Another alternative to consider is endotine forehead lifting, especially if you are looking to fix both your droopy-looking eyes and sagging forehead.

What other surgery complements sub-brow lift surgery?
